Operational Excellence on the Deepwater Champion

In July this year the Deepwater Champion sailed into the Gulf of Mexico. The project: Plug and Abandonment (P&A). ExxonMobil’s (EM) P&A program of 7 wells, in partnership with Transocean, some of which were completed as far back as 20 years ago, is not without its challenges. Greg Homer Back in the Saddle on the Maersk Viking

After 9 months hiatus, Beyond the Break’s (BTB) Greg Homer, Head of New Projects & Start Up’s, has made a return to his beloved Maersk Viking in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). After getting to know all the crew way back in April 2014 at Safety Leadership Training, he travelled across with them to their current location in the GOM before a full 4-week hitch to start establishing safety culture. BTB Hand Safety Strategy Hits the Mark on the Viking

After having a very successful Start-up campaign with ExxonMobil (EM) and Maersk in the Gulf of Mexico aboard the “Viking” drill ship in 2014, Beyond the Break (BTB) was asked to return in 2015 to assist with completions. With such a high number of Service Provider companies involved and the existing Maersk crew never having undertaken this type of operation on the new vessel, it was understandable that some assistance was required to ensure a smooth and safe operation. New Country, New Challenges. Update from Chad

New Induction Production for Deepwater Champion

With any successful start-up, an effective, specifically tailored, induction video is vital to ensure key expectations are communicated effectively for all new and returning crew. Beyond the Break (BTB) is regularly commissioned to create such an induction video. The BTB induction team recently released its latest production for the Deepwater Champion on behalf of ExxonMobil who has partnered with Transocean for their drilling operation in Guyana. Filming took place on the rig and at the Safety Leadership Training (SLT) workshop in Lake Charles near Houston in late February, 2015. Ocean Apex Sets Precedence in Vietnam

Beyond the Break (BTB) has undertaken many successful start-ups. One that is now in transition from “start-up” to “operational” phase is the Ocean Apex based in Vietnam. A rig is usually considered “start-up” from approximately the first 3-6 months of a new campaign, depending on the crew’s history with the rig.
